Thesis funding
There are a number of different ways to finance a thesis.
Firstly, there is the doctoral contract, which is one of the main sources of doctoral funding in France. At Aix-Marseille Université (AMU), the recruitment process for doctoral students on the institution's doctoral contracts is largely organized by the doctoral schools (ED)
At ED659, 14 doctoral contracts are awarded through a competitive process.
the doctoral college coordinates 5 calls for thesis proposals (AAP).

Other sources of thesis funding include CIFRE (Convention Industrielle de Formation par la Recherche) contracts, EJD (Emploi Jeunes Doctorants) funded by the PACA (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) regional council, Labex, A*MIDEX, etc
Most French research organizations, EPST (CNRS, INRIA, IRD, ...) or EPIC (CEA, IRSN, CNES, ...) also fund thesis projects under doctoral or research contracts.
There are also other sources of thesis funding offered by research foundations or associations (FRM, AFM, Ligue contre le cancer, Oréal, etc.).
