École Doctorale 659 brings together top-level European and international research units and teams in the fields of health and life sciences. Its programs include multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary teaching, "from bench to bedside", as well as practical workshops to facilitate professional integration. One of the special features of ED659 is its strong link with the Faculty of Medical and Paramedical Sciences.

Presentation

école Doctorale 659 Recherches Biomédicales (Biomedical Research Doctoral School) was created in September 2024 from the split of École Doctorale 62 Sciences de la Vie et de la Santé (Life and Health Sciences Doctoral School). This highly multi-disciplinary school welcomes doctoral students whose field of research falls within the following 11 doctoral titles:

Genetics
Biomechanical and biomedical engineering and innovative therapeutics
Infectious diseases and microbiota
Neurology, imaging and mental health
Oncology
Cardiovascular pathologies, nutrition and inflammation
Clinical research, simulation and paramedical sciences

The principles

The ED is headed by a Director assisted by a Board.
The ED Director is appointed by the head of the institution after consultation with the Academic Research Commission and the ED Council.
The Board adopts the ED's action program.
Through its deliberations, it manages the affairs of the doctoral school, based on internal regulations.

Missions

In accordance with the missions devolved to Doctoral Schools by the decree of May 26, 2016,

eD 659 organizes the training of doctoral students and prepares them for their professional activity at the end of their doctoral training. In accordance with the principles formulated in the AMU Doctoral Charter and the procedures specified in its internal regulations, it supports doctoral students in completing their doctorate, notably by providing them with a multidisciplinary culture as part of a coherent scientific project.

ED 659

Organizes the allocation of funding, in particular doctoral contracts, within the framework of institutional policy

Ensures the quality of doctoral student supervision by research units and teams, and monitors and implements compliance with the doctoral charter of 26/06/2016.

It enables doctoral students to prepare and defend their thesis in the best possible conditions

Organizes scientific and intellectual exchanges between doctoral students

Provides doctoral students with the training they need to develop their research and professional projects, as well as the training they need to acquire a broader scientific culture

Defines a support system for the professional integration of doctoral students

Organizes follow-up on the professional integration of doctoral students and, more generally, of all doctoral students admitted to the ED
